The third child out of a family of four siblings, Kayon spent her formative years in Jamaica where she attended Saunders Basic School, New Providence Primary, and Ardenne High School. She continued her educational career and received her teaching diploma in Linguistics and Literature from Shortwood Teachers’ College in Kingston, Jamaica. Kayon then earned a Bachelor of Education from The University of the West Indies in Mona, Jamaica where she graduated summa cum laude and her Master of Education from Wake Forest University in North Carolina where she also graduated summa cum laude. Education was the cornerstone of Kayon’s life. She began her classroom teaching career at Wolmer’s Preparatory School in Kingston, Jamaica. Her passion for fun, adventure and education then led her to the United States in 2001 where she taught at Reeds Elementary School in North Carolina. In 2004 Kayon decided to expand her horizons and accepted a teaching position in Hawally, Kuwait at Al-Bayan Bilingual School where she became Head of Middle School English as well as the Writers and Readers Workshops Director. Kayon also taught at The Lovett School in Atlanta, GA and McConnell Middle School in Loganville, GA. Kayon believed in the importance of education as shown throughout her teaching career. She was a loving and compassionate educator who made a difference in the lives of her students.

Kayon was a member of Hopewell Northeast Missionary Baptist Church in Grayson, GA. Her love for God and her faith in Him was evident and always on display. Kind and respectful to all she met, Kayon always looked for ways to help mankind, particularly the less fortunate and those who are often overlooked. Kayon sought opportunities to build others up and to provide words of encouragement. Kayon had a great sense of humor and fashion. Despite her many accomplishments, Kayon was very humble. She never forgot her roots and always represented her beloved island of Jamaica with class, proudly proclaiming “Out of Many One People”. David Junior Scott founded The Kayon Joy Lindsay-Scott Joy of Education Corporation to honor the life of his wife, Kayon Joy Lindsay-Scott. The Kayon Joy Lindsay-Scott Joy of Education Scholarship was established to recognize and continue Kayon’s legacy of advocating for higher education.
