Kayon Joy Lindsay-Scott

Joy of Education Foundation

From the moment she and I met at orientation I knew she was a kindred spirit. Kayon walked with the joy of life and wasn’t afraid to showcase her love for our Father & Savior Jesus Christ. You knew coming into her classroom your children were being loved and cared for as if they were her own. She took special time with my son to show him how special he is and stood up for him when needed. I am blessed my family was able to continue a relationship outside of the classroom with her. I know she left a lasting impression on my family and is deeply missed. May she rest in paradise.
— Alexis Jefferson, Parent - Mt. Vernon Presbyterian School

Kayon was a trailblazer at Al Bayan Bilingual School. She was always trying to incorporate new ways to enhance the teaching/ learning process. She introduced the Reader’s Workshop model to the school which is still practiced today. She would always encourage us as teachers to do nothing less than our best.
— Ann Goulbourne, Colleague 2009 - 2010

It was truly a joyful experience working with Kayon at McConnell Middle School. Her desire to see students excel was inspiring to say the least. If I had to single out what I remember most about Kayon it would be that she was always trying to reach the “unreachable” students. She would often ask me “how can I reach them”. Even when she would want to give up on students and said it verbally. The next day she was coming up with a new plan of action. Her face would light up when she was making progress. Although there would be minor setbacks here and there, she continued to preserver, never losing the mentality that EVERY student could be reached. The second most memorable thing would be that her desire to educate didn’t stop with students. She would consistently correct my verbal and written grammar LOL.

It propelled me closer to my goals, and I can see the finishing line ahead as I approach my final year.
